In my last blog, I covered my mid-point review and said in this blog I would give an update on what has been going on with cavnessHR since the beginning of the year.
I am going to change that to me using the next several blogs to provide updates on the last 6 months of cavnessHR. Once I have provided those updates. I will then start providing regular updates on the progress of cavnessHR.
At the beginning of the year I was doing my best to find a Technical Co Founder. I reached out to several developers I knew who I thought might be a good match for me. I knew them from either previous networking events or recruiting them for MyUnfold. Or they were one of my LinkedIn or Angelist connections. Or I knew them in some other manner.
I talked to several people, but for whatever reason, none of them were a match for me. Except for one, I had a good meeting with a Senior Director of Technology at one of the larger Seattle area Tech companies. This person had an interest in my idea and we had a great discussion.
This person decided to pass on the opportunity to be a Co Founder in cavnessHR. Until I could prove product market fit and could bring on a few customers. This person believes that once I do that, it might be worth revisiting. Which of course I understand, in this person's current position, they are busy. Taking on a Co Founder role would need to be the right situation. Once I have the prerequisites asked for, I will ask for another meeting. If nothing else, I can receive some feedback on the progress of cavnessHR so far. Also his opinion on how cavnessHR is being built as far as the technology is concerned.
As part of my search for a Co Founder, I joined CoFoundersLab and Founders2Be. These sites help to find and match Co Founders. I did not have much luck on these sites. I had a few conversations. But nothing that came close to me asking anyone to be a Co Founder in cavnessHR.
I did have one interesting item come from these sites. I received an email from a gentlemen from another country saying he had an interest in being my Co Founder. This person had great credentials and a proven track record. However, he wanted 50% equity and for his contributions to cavnessHR to not be public.
For 50% equity, I would expect someone to be a full partner. Take care of the Tech side and for someone of his background to help out with investor relationships. I asked several people I trust and they all had the answer I knew they would provide. So told the gentlemen that I would have to pass on his offer.
There is one more person who I would like to be a Co Founder of cavnessHR or at least at a minimum help out with the software development. He worked with me at MyUnfold and has been a Technical Co Founder at several startups. However, he is currently working as a software developer at one of the larger Seattle area tech companies. He is also doing lots of traveling and enjoying the freedom this position is giving him. But I know he will soon catch the startup bug again. But until then, I will continue my search for a Technical Co Founder. Or it might just end up that I continue and finish building cavnessHR without one.
