Another week of learning and making things happen at cavnessHR. Along with some exciting things going on with cavnessHR.
We are really glad we switched to SmarterQueue https://smarterqueue.com/ for our social media platform. The capacity it provides is amazing. We can't wait to use its analytics functions. To include on our competitors.
We took course 4 of the Digital Transformation course from HelloSign. www.hellosign.com
This course focused on how design should be part of your digital transformation.
We had a great meeting with our UX/UI Design person. We talked about way to improve the user
experience on the website. We covered ways to improve all interactions between customers and cavnessHR across all platforms.
We took part in the Operations Goodwill Good Jobs job fair on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. (JBLM)
This is a quarterly job fair that helps transitioning veterans find jobs. We talked to about 25 people. About 5 we were able to connect with other people we knew were hiring for their skills. We talked to two people that we believe would help to build out the HR part of cavnessHR. We will be sure to keep in touch with them.
We volunteered at and attended the 2018 Washington State Employment Law and HR conference. We volunteered as that allowed us to attend for free. Volunteering was actually fun. We had to set up some rooms and do some bags. The best part is we were able to connect with some great HR professionals who also volunteered.
The conference was a great event and covered some interesting subjects. I know as a startup you should be focused on building your product, your company and customer acquisition. But I really believe you have to find the time to keep yourself professionally developed as well.
Another plus is that our HR partners, bambooHR www.bamboohr.com was one of the vendors
at the conference. We were able to talk to them and discuss ways to make our partnership even better.
We are back to having our weekly meeting with the Green River College capstone project development team. As we said before, we switched their focus from the items in our initial sales funnel. To linking job descriptions for the Department of Labor O*Net site to our website and our customers. Since we are focused on the construction industry for now. We are only having them do this for construction-related jobs.
We completed the latest mission for the Bunker Labs Launch Online Accelerator program. https://bunkerlabs.org/launch-lab-online/ This mission dealt with how relationship building is so important when building a business.
The Bunker Labs Launch Online Accelerator program. https://bunkerlabs.org/launch-lab-online/
also released some additional courses for us to take. We took the one on Women in Entrepreneurship. This discussed the many barriers to women and how despite this they
can still be successful entrepreneurs. It also discussed ways women tend to hold themselves back. That was very interesting.
The other course we took was the course on pitching. It discussed the 4 types of investors. How some are better for you and your company. How your pitch for customers and investors should be different. It covered how to do the pitch.
Always use presenter mode
Always use a remote control
Handouts are not part of the presentation
Don't read your speech
Never ever look at the screen
It talked about what investors are looking for in the people they decide to invest in with their money.

We watched some videos from the YC startup school. They covered

Building product, talking to users and growing
culture
We do our best to take in as much usable information as possible. If it is startup, HR, tech, business-related, design or customer service we will listen or read it. We also consume quite a few podcasts that cover these areas.
One item we need to start working on is building our HR products for Alaska, Oregon, Idaho and Texas. This will be a lot of work as we will have to build everything manually.
We submitted a new submission to the University of Washington - Tacoma Vibe Business Plan competition. As you recall, they extended the deadline from April 13 to April 23. This gave us the opportunity to relook the plan one more time and have some more people take a look. Wouldn't you know it, but the 15th person to take a look found some mistakes in the financials section. So that was a great catch. Originally, we were supposed to find out on April 20 if we made it to the next round. They have not put out a new schedule based on their new deadline. https://www.tacoma.uw.edu/veterans-incubator-better-entrepreneurship/business-plan-competition-0
Below is our resubmission.
We had a great meeting with Michael Kelly https://www.linkedin.com/in/mpklaw/
He is a business and real estate attorney in the South Sound. We do our best to meet up and bounce ideas off each other. His background is that he is a former SSG in the U.S. Army and a combat veteran. Now he is a lawyer. We think that is a great story.
We traveled to San Jose, Ca for a day to spend the day with our CTO. It was a great trip and we discussed the type of company we want to build and the way ahead for cavnessHR. We will do our best to go down there once in awhile. He will also make some trips up here.
We had a great meeting with Kevin Goldsmith. https://www.linkedin.com/in/goldsmith/
We talked about various tech subjects. The best way to recruit talent for cavnessHR and other items.
We really appreciated that he took the time to meet with us.
We met with Steven Matly https://www.linkedin.com/in/smdiversity/ of SM Diversity and SDS Consulting. This meeting just happened to occur on the same day we released his podcast episode on the cavnessHR podcast. We discussed several items to include business, diversity and inclusion our backgrounds, how we can help each other out, HR and other items.
Our meeting went so well that SM Diversity will be a cavnessHR partner. More information on the details of this partnership will be coming out soon.
We are all focused on building our business or whatever else it is that you are focused on with your life. Just remember there is a huge world, indeed a huge universe for us to explore.
