Maury Pittman is a Dad, personal trainer, tea maker & entrepreneur. For over twenty years, Maury has supported and assisted others in their personal fitness and life goal journeys. His commitment to his clients runs deep and is only surpassed by his commitment and dedication to his boys; 13 year old Gavin and 11 year old Tyler.

Maury’s youngest son Ty, lives with epilepsy and the after-effects of needed, but heavy, medications for the first six or seven years of his life. He navigates the world differently than most and relies on those who love him to provide for him in deeper ways than most children. Maury holds this truth close as he makes each and every business decision. He carries the weight of it emotionally and financially for Ty but also for Gav.

What was to become Maury’s Hive Tea began in his kitchen, after a chat with a client. Maury was pushing through a cold to train a client, when the client offered him some green tea. After a sip he said he wished it was sweeter and the two chatted about how great it would be if they had a way to have honey travel with the tea bags. A follow up text that night, and an internet search the following day, began a journey for Maury that has twisted and turned its way to becoming Maury’s Hive Tea. After several creative yet unsuccessful attempts to self-solve the problem, Maury found a company that sold granulated honey. He placed his first order, then spent many nights, after long days, measuring and taste testing multiple recipes until he landed on the proprietary whole leaf and honey blend that met his quality and taste standards. Initially he had 15-20 clients he gave samples to and they asked for more. He brought the handmade tea bags to the gym and began to sell them for $1 each. And within one month was selling $500 bags per week. He knew he was onto something and began doing tastings in local specialty shops and groceries stores in Fairfield and Westchester Counties in CT & NY.

What began as a small dream in his condo kitchen, began to form into a business.

Over time Maury continued to work to grow and expand the business, ultimately taking on a small amount of seed equity investment.  This initial capital allowed the business to rebrand and begin approaching potential distribution partners.  Currently Maury’s Hive Tea is offered in over 45 locations around the Northeast and has recently entered into a distribution agreement with Sysco, the world’s largest food distributor.  

While it is still early days, the Company and Maury himself are both excited about the prospects for the future!
