I like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you have a great holiday season coming up. Each week at cavneessHR, we do this weekly live stream where we talk about a topic important to small businesses. So on this week's live stream, we're going to talk about HR of old and no vs the HR of new and yes. So in my mind, there's a there is a little battle going in HR right now. The HR of old and new vs the HR of new and yes. It's very important when you pick your HR company or HR person to know which one you're getting.
The HR of old will stay in their office 9 to 5. If someone has an idea to improve something. The answer is always no because it is too much work for them. Someone might say hey HR person, this employee needs to talk to you. But they can't come to you until after five o'clock. Old HR will say well I get off work at five so I don't know what to tell them. If the HR of old works in a manufacturing plant, they never go to the floor to see what's going on. If the HR of old or no is asked what is going on in the Marketing department? The answer is always well, I don't work in the market department. How am I supposed to know?
HR of no is always compliance-driven. Never open to new ideas and not a true business partner. So you definitely wanna stay away from them. The HR of Yes, HR of new, they are walking the floor of the business and meeting and talking to people. They are open to new ideas. They believe in compliance. They know there are rules and processes you have to follow. But also realize there's always a way to find a way to get to the yes without getting anyone into trouble. They know what's going on with everyone in the company. They know people's birthdays, they know the whole nine yards, and a true business partner.
This is another good example of the difference between the HR of old and no vs the HR of new and yes. A person has been with your company for 10 years and they're your best employee. I mean, not even close they outperform everyone and they perform at a higher level.
For some reason, they don't come to work for three days. No one knows why they miss work for three days. In your policies, it says if anyone misses work for three days, they are automatically fired. They automatically get fired. The HR of old would say, Well, I don't care how good of an employee they are. They missed three days of work. The policy says we have to fire them, so we're going to fire them. The HR of yes will say, Well, yes, that's our policy. But at least let's find out why this person missed three days, maybe they have a good explanation.
So just a quick rundown of the HR of old and no vs the HR of new and yes. Be sure you pick the right HR company or right HR person when it's time for you to pick your HR.
