Moein’s Bio

Moein Borghei is a high-voltage scientist who leads the high-voltage team at Avalanche Energy, a fusion startup based in Seattle, WA. Moein holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, which he earned in 2022, and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the esteemed Sharif University of Technology, where he graduated in 2018.

Moein has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and has actively participated in more than 10 conferences. His research focuses on a wide range of fascinating areas, including high-voltage engineering, dielectrics, charged particle simulation, multiphysics modeling, and power transmission designs.

In recognition of his work, Moein has received the Best Paper Award at the 2020 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting (PES-GM) and he was the recipient of the Paul E. Torgersen Graduate Student Research Excellence Award.

Beyond his academic achievements, Moein actively engages with professional organizations and initiatives. He serves as the North America representative of the IEEE Dielectric and Electrical Insulation Society Young Professionals and is a member of the IEEE Task Force on Frequency Domain Studies, IEEE Dielectric and Electrical Insulation Society, IEEE Power and Energy Society, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

In his free time, Moein loves cooking, baking, playing tennis, and reading philosophy.
